Gabriel’s Bar and restaurant Hot Chocolate

What a great way to end an evening out in New York City , especially if you have just visited Lincoln center for the performing arts. This Hot Chocolate can serve as after dinner drink or dessert and seriously so much better than those powder versions.

Makes 4 cups or 12 small servings

6 oz bittersweet chocolate

2 cups heavy cream

1 cup whole milk

2 tbs sugar

1/8 tsp salt

1 tbs unsalted butter

Chop chocolate . In a 1 1/2 quart saucepan bring cream ,Milk ,sugar and salt just to a boil over moderate heat, stirring and add chocolate and butter.Reduce heat to low and cook mixture ,stirring, until chocolate is melted and mixture is smooth.

Ladle hot chocolate into demi tasse cups and top with whipped cream and a few raspberries. (raspberries will sink to the bottom).


Raspberry -Lime freeze

I simply adore strawberry shakes or any such creamy cold drinks. Ofcourse I am convinced the milk and strawberries are full of calcium and antioxidants. So , in that vein I was delighted to discover this recipe on the internet, using a combination of fresh raspberries, so heavenly coupled with sorbet for intensity and ice cream…wow

serves 4

21/2 pints raspberries(about 7 cups)

1 pint raspberry sorbet

1 tablespoon lime zest

1/4 cup fresh lime juice (from 2-3 limes)

1 cup vanilla ice cream

Place 51/2 cups raspberries, the lime juice , lime zest and sorbet in a blender. Puree until smooth. Add ice cream and blend once more. Transfer to a serving jug and stir in the remaining raspberries. Serve cold

Passion Fruit Rose iced tea

21/2 cups water

4 Passion Tea bags( We love Tazo Tea Bags)

2 cinnamon sticks

2 cups Apple Juice

3 tablespoons or more Honey

1 tablespoon fresh lime juice

1 teaspoon Rose Water, available in Asian stores or Whole foods

Brind water to boil. Add cinnamon sticks and tea bags. Cover and turn off heat. Allow to steep for 6-8 minutes.

Discard teabags and add honey, lime juice, apple juice and rose water. Taste for sweetness, add more honey if desired.

Cool . Then place in Refriderator till cold. Serve

Watermelon Daiquiri

I stumbled upon this recipie quiet by accident and loved it. What more can you ask when fresh watermelon is so abundant and inexpensive. It is greatly refreshing and being low calorieis just a bonus.This recipie comes from Shirley m Draper.

4 cups seedless watermelon, peeled, seeded and cubed. FROZEN FOR 6 HOURS

1/2 cup light rum

1/4 cup Fresh Lime juice

1/4 cup triple Sec

Ice cubes

Combine Frozen Watermelon, rum, lime juice and Liqueur in a blender. Blend till smooth.

Add ice cubes to bring mixture up to 5 cups. Blend and serve

Pomegranate juice Margaritas

when in the mood for a cocktail try this beautiful “pink” margarita. You could even convince yourself its good for you because of the Pomegranate juice.

This comes from Rosa Mexicano NYC

2 ounces White Tequila

1/2 ounce triple sec

1 ounce Fresh Lime juice

1 tablespoons Pomegranate juice


Mix all ingredients in a blender till smooth and frothy.


Mango Banana Smoothie

Love this refreshing smoothie especially in the scorching summer months. This and a salad make a super , filling meal any time of day.

Serves 2

2 mangoes, peeled , diced, and frozen

1 cup plain yoghurt, preferably Stonyfield

1/2 cup skim milk

1 Banana, coarsly chopped and frozen

2 -3 tablespoons fresh lime juice

Place all ingredients in a blender and whip till smooth. Pour into two tall glasses and garnish with a sprig of mint.
